Pizza

This page compliments the purchase of a pizza meal kit on Friday 10th July. Buy one here for delivery in Rosyth or Inverkeithing.

The kit makes two pizzas.

It will include: Two balls of pizza dough, ingredients for making the sauce, cheese and toppings, flour and semolina.

You will need: Some kind of tray to put the pizza in the oven on. It doesn’t need to be a pizza tray. As well as the semolina (which will stop the dough from sticking to your tray), we’ll try to provide some baking paper too. It’s helpful if you have something to roll the dough out i.e. a rolling pin but you can use your hands instead!

FOR THE SAUCE
  • 400g tin chopped tomatoes
  • 2 tbsp tomato puree
  • 1 tsp mixed dried herbs
  • Salt, pepper and sugar (optional)

This will make too much sauce for this kit, so freeze it or keep it in the fridge and use it with pasta or more pizzas later on!

1. Open the tin mostly but leave the lid attached so you can pour some of the juice out to make the tomatoes less runny. Alternatively you can use a sieve if you have one!

2. Pour the tomatoes into a bowl or jug and stir in the tomato puree and the herbs.

3. Add some salt, pepper and a pinch of sugar if you like.

TO MAKE THE PIZZA

1. Preheat your oven to 250°C (about gas mark 9) or as close as your oven can get to it. This might be the maximum temperature of your oven – that’s fine!

2. Clear a surface and sprinkle some flour over it. Make the space big enough for a pizza base!

3. Roll or stretch out the first pizza dough so that it’s quite thin, but make sure there aren’t any holes in it. The shape isn’t important so don’t worry if it’s not a circle, but it’ll need to fit on your tray/baking sheet!

4. Sprinkle some semolina onto your pizza/oven tray or baking sheet and then carefully put the pizza base on the tray/sheet.

5. Take a tablespoon or two of the pizza sauce and spread it with the back of the spoon onto the dough. It can be spread quite thinly so don’t use too much. Leave a little space at the edges for the crust.

6. Sprinkle a little cheese on top of the sauce, then choose your toppings and put those on too.

7. Add a little more cheese on top of the toppings, then put in the oven. It won’t take long to cook but it depends on the thickness of your base and the amount of toppings. Check it after 5-10 mins and turn it 180 degrees. Keep an eye on it and take out when the cheese is nicely golden brown.

8. Make your other pizza!
