The Hub – while small – is a busy, busy place! It’s where we share food with customers from the community and beyond. We share a huge amount of surplus food here six days a week – bread, fruit and vegetables, tinned goods, meat and dairy, pastries and cakes and often much more. We encourage people to shop with us first to help tackle food waste.
It’s also where we share our own fresh produce from the EATS Garden and Orchard.
Two nights a week we serve up a community meal and are always looking for volunteers to help us gather up ingredients, prepare food or lend a hand with the dishes. In our small kitchen prep area we will share our tips on eating well, using local produce and cooking affordable meals.
Thursdays 5-7pm: Real Junk Food Meal
Every Thursday in the Community Hub we serve up a three course sit down meal for anyone in the community. There is no set cost, pay as you feel! For this meal we use 90% intercepted food, almost all donated or surplus food that would have otherwise gone to waste. We turn it into a delicious meal and hope to share ways to reduce food waste and ideas for using local produce.
Fridays 5-7pm: Frank the Healthy Takeaway
Every Friday we have Frank the Healthy Takeaway – an alternative takeaway option FREE FOR KIDS (adults pay a donation if they can). Soup, a main course and a veggie option always available, sourced from local ingredients where possible.
We can help to provide REHIS Basic Food Hygiene training for interested volunteers.
We love to share and accept food donations from residents and local businesses. If you have a business that you think might have surplus food to donate, get in touch!
