It is a rather chilly week, but sunny and calm, perfect timing for some pre-season garden improvements! The Educates Team`s first practical session at Kings Road have been all about introduction to the project and finalising the layout of the school`s quad. Pupils have been busily filling the new raised beds with compost and building a brand-new edge for the wildflower area.
Transferring compost from builders’ bags to raised beds is a challenging task indeed, but not for these P5 pupils! They finished the assignment on time with big smiles on their faces (and with lots of muddy hands).
The wildflower area edging was a challenge. Finding suitable material hasn’t been easy, but thanks to the lovely residents of Rosyth, we could supply some excellent paving stones. Working in pairs, pupils created an eye-catching teardrop shape bed for the flowers which will be sown early spring next year. Thank you, Rosyth, for the countless replies to our social media posts!
Both of these activities required precise and correct tool usage and coordinated teamwork. Working in small groups and pairs is not always easy, especially if your buddies are chosen randomly. Luckily, pupils tackled these challenges easily and made the quad a bit homier.
Did they have fun? The first questions the Educates Team got at the end of the session:

“What are we doing next week?”
We think they had fun indeed.
