December 2024

There is not a lot that can be planted in Winter, but one thing we can put in the ground at this time of year is garlic. We bought large garlic bulbs from the food isle of the supermarket and split them up into individual cloves before planting them in the raised beds. Which goes to show you don’t have to buy bulbs for ten times the price from a garden centre! The pupils were quite impressed by this “infinite food hack”, as they put it when working out how many new garlic bulbs we could get from the few cloves that we had planted.

We also planted a few other types of bulbs, namely onion sets and daffodils, so the pupils have been able to compare the similarities and the differences between the two.
